Tip of the Day: Using Store Coupons

As I explained in a prior “Tip”, Store Coupons are for SPECIFIC stores named on the coupon. Recently, competitor’s coupons are being accepted at Pathmark and the A&P (hopefully, this trend will continue!). A store coupon should be given FIRST at the checkout because many times it is the type of coupon that reads if you spend a certain amount you will receive a certain amount off your purchase. An example is the coupon that appeared in newspapers yesterday (6-17-09) for both Pathmark and the A&P entitling you to $5.00 off your order if you spend $50.00. The reason it should go first is, especially if you have other coupons to redeem, your total will be reduced from the other coupons and you may not qualify for the initial total purchase qualification. Also, if it is the type of store coupon that gives you a special price, you can still use a manufacturer’s coupon, in addition, on that same item.
