Rather than shampooing the entire rug, mix a small amount of toothpaste containing hydrogen peroxide and/or baking soda with 3/4 cup of water in a bowl. Dip a sponge into this solution and blot the stain until it disappears. The toothpaste will break down any organic stains and is also a mild abrasive to remove any grime.
