Tip of the Day: Supermarket Money-Saving Strategies
The supermarket is a place most of us frequent. If you can remember a few of these tips, along with using coupons and following sales, you can take a chunk out of your grocery bill. First of all, buy small sizes, especially if you have an any-size coupon. It’s cheaper to buy multiples of a small size (using a coupon on each one) than to buy one large size using one coupon. When there are “specials” offering 4 or 5 for a given price, unless specified, you do NOT have to buy 4 or 5 to get the sale price; one will ring up at the discount. When purchasing from salad bars, ONLY buy pricey and expensive items. The prices are usually by the pound no matter what you put in the container. It doesn’t make sense to pay more for something you can get cheaper in the produce section. On the other hand, if something is out of season, and more money, buy it at the salad bar and save. And lastly, always look for coupons on free-standing displays, from demonstrators, or in those red blinky boxes attached to the shelves. Just make sure that when you use those coupons they are a good deal. Most of the time the Sunday newspaper coupons are a better value. Happy shopping!
