Tip of the Day: Dryer Sheets Eliminate Static Electricity from Tech Screens with Caution
A simple swipe across a turned-off screen can help reduce visible dust or mild static cling, mainly because your hand (especially if slightly moist) can help dissipate a small electrical charge. That said, it’s not a guaranteed or long-lasting way to eliminate static electricity. Keep in mind:
- It works best for light, surface-level static, not built-up charge.
- You might actually add smudges or oils from your fingers.
- For TVs, monitors, and phones, a microfiber cloth is usually more effective and safer for the screen.
If static is a constant annoyance (especially in dry indoor air), using a humidifier or anti-static screen wipes will make a bigger difference. So, a quick swipe in a pinch? Sure. Just maybe not your go-to cleaning method.
