Tip of the Day: Best Deals in February
February is here! Your dollars will go further during the shortest month if you know where to look!
Winter is on its way out, and February brings plenty of reasons to celebrate and save! The two biggest holidays this month are Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day, but we also have Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, and Mardi Gras in the mix. All of that usually means sales for shoppers.
Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th, but it’s often the most expensive day to buy flowers, fragrances, and chocolates. Look for deals wherever you can. If you’re ordering flowers, place your order early to take advantage of coupon codes and early-bird specials and, most import, to reserve your delivery.
The real bargains arrive on the 15th. If you won’t be seeing your sweetheart until after Valentine’s Day, consider waiting to buy your gifts. Planning a celebration later? You’ll find party favors, décor, and candy marked down by as much as 50%.
Love is in the air this month! If fragrance is the desire of your loved one’s heart, many department stores offer bonus gift sets with purchase, letting you get more for your money. Don’t forget drugstores like CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid. You may be able to stack store sales with digital or paper coupons, making these already thoughtful gifts even more affordable.
Sexy women’s lingerie will be on display everywhere this month, especially at specialty shops like Victoria’s Secret. Shop in-store or online to find the best deals and a wider selection.
Jewelry will also be on sale, particularly pieces with love-inspired designs. Larger retailers such as Macy’s, Walmart, Target, and Bloomingdale’s will be featuring heart-shaped baubles and running advertised specials, making it a great time to shop for something sparkly.
Beauty and skincare products will be marked down this month, especially those in winter-themed packaging. Be sure to look for these seasonal designs because you’ll get the very same product you love, just in a limited-edition bottle, often at a better price.
After Valentine’s Day, many restaurants begin offering specials—and they’re usually much less crowded than on the holiday itself. Some cities even host Restaurant Week, where you can enjoy a delicious meal for a lot less than the usual price. And don’t forget takeout! It’s a great way to support your favorite local spots while enjoying a relaxed, dine-in experience at home.
National Frozen Yogurt Day falls annually on February 6. Although it is during the middle of Winter, many yogurt shops offer FREE yogurt! FREE is FREE! Check around your area to see what shops are celebrating the food holiday this year.
Filing your own taxes? This is the time to buy the Tax Software you need. Stores like Staples have a great variety for all your needs.
TVs are the big-ticket item on sale thanks to Super Bowl promotions. You’ll find great deals at retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, BJ’s, Costco, Walmart, and more.
Another reason for the discounts? Last year’s electronics models need to move out before new versions are unveiled at upcoming electronics shows. That means savings not only on TVs, but also on items like HDTVs and digital cameras.
You may also see humidifiers marked down as winter winds down, another smart buy while supplies last.
Department stores consider Winter season to be over as they make room for spring fashions. Before the cold-weather clothing is packed away, you can score great deals on winter coats, sweaters, and other warm apparel as prices are heavily discounted. There’s still plenty of time to wear these pieces this year or you can tuck them away and be ready for next winter at a fraction of the cost.
Speaking of warm weather. It’s not that far away! Air Conditioners and Outdoor Grills will start making appearance at big box stores. There will be a good selection and they will be less expensive now. Also, even if you are not in the market for anything new, this is the perfect time to have existing equipment serviced because the demand is less than in hot weather and your favorite mechanic will have time. This also goes for lawn mowers too.
President’s Weekend is a great time to shop for a car. Whether you’re leasing or buying, you’ll often find strong incentives and savings. For even better deals, shop toward the very end of the month when dealerships are focused on meeting quotas, which can work in your favor. This is also is a prime time for furniture shopping, mostly for bedroom sets, couches, and especially mattresses, with prices similar to Memorial Day.
Getting married? Fewer weddings are booked before March due to unpredictable weather. This means many vendors, from photographers to bands, have more availability and may be more willing to negotiate prices, giving you a chance to save on your big day.
Cruises are often more affordable this time of year. Look for deals during Wave Season, when many cruise lines offer discounts, perks, and cabin upgrades to fill upcoming sailings.
Some items are better to wait for before buying. Skip luggage until March, Android phones until July or November, and spring clothing until April or May. Timing your purchases can help you score the best savings.
In the grocery store just about everything related to Valentine’s Day: candy, seafood, steak, red and heart-themed paper goods will be on sale on the 15th. Buy then and celebrate the rest of the year! You van keep the paper goods until next year, unless you can get solid red colors that can be used for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day celebrations. In addition, canned foods like Tuna, Chicken, Fruit, Pie Fillings, and Vegetables will be at special prices. For a hot breakfast combine coupons (fingers crossed) on Waffle Mixes, Syrup, and Breakfast Meats. In the produce section you’ll find Artichokes, Raspberries, Potatoes, Strawberries, Broccoli, Carrots, Celery, Cauliflower, Chard, Collards, Kale, Kiwi, Spinach, and Avocados all in season.
Spring is coming, but, enjoy these last days of Winter and save!
