Baking sheets are the unsung workhorses of every kitchen. They roast, broil, bake, and withstand constant use, but over time, even the best ones start to show wear. Rust, in particular, can be frustrating and unappealing. Before you give up and buy a new sheet (or wear yourself out scrubbing), try tackling the rust with a simple, surprising tool you already have: a potato. The secret lies in using the potato itself as a scrubber. Start by washing off any leftover grease or grime from the pan. Next, cut a potato in half and dip the cut side into baking soda or dish soap. Use this end to scrub away at the rusty spots. Potatoes naturally contain oxalic acid, which reacts with the rust to help loosen it, while the baking soda or soap adds an extra cleaning boost. For especially stubborn patches, simply slice off the used end of the potato, re-dip, and keep scrubbing until your baking sheet looks refreshed.
