If this happens to you, it may be caused by lint in the charging port. First, turn off your phone and shine a flashlight into the opening. If you see any buildup, carefully, use a toothpick to loosen it. Tap your phone so it will fall out. This will work because as you plug the charger into the port it pushes the lint inside further blocking the connection. If you feel any resistance STOP and have it serviced as you don’t want to damage the port.
