Fans use less power than air conditioning. BUT they only work on people directly in the breeze not rooms! This is because moving air evaporates sweat so you feel the relief. If you have a ceiling fan, check that the blades are spinning counterclockwise in the Summer.  (There is a switch on the on the base of the fan). If you are a fan person, turn it off when you leave the room to avoid wasting energy.
