Before adding soil to window boxes and flower pots, crumble a few dryer sheets in the bottom above the drainage hole. These fabric helpers will keep the soil in place while still allowing the water to drain. Also, it has been proven that the linalool and citronellol in the sheets repel up to 75% of garden fungus gnats which damage roots!
