If an overnight freeze is predicted, sprinkle some baking soda on concrete surfaces like sidewalks and walks the night before. Baking soda has a lower freezing point than water so it will prevent ice from forming. Its crystals are very finer so they are less abrasive and damaging than commercial salt products. Buy baking soda at the Dollar Store to save and stock up!
