Tip of the Day: Prolong the Life of Onions & Garlic
If you’d like to get a jump on your holiday cooking, you can prep onions and garlic ahead of time! Keep onions and garlic in the mesh bags they come in. Leave in a cool, dark, dry spot. They do emit ethylene gas so keep away from potatoes because they can cause them to rot. Once they are peeled, place in a plastic bag, then in a glass container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Garlic and onions can be frozen too. Do so in freezer-safe glass containers. Peel the garlic and chop the onions. When they thaw they will be mushy, but they’re fine for coking.
