If you and your leather shoes had the misfortune of getting caught in the rain that led to an unexpected splash of mud, you can rid it easily by mixing 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/2 cup vegetable oil in a spray bottle. Spritz your shoes then buff with a clean, soft cloth. The acid in the lemon will have cut through the dirt while the oil will nourish the dried-out leather. This will work on handbags and clothing too, but always test in an inconspicuous area first to be sure.
