Tip of the Day: Easter Eggs 101
1
Here are a few tips to help you make the best Easter eggs! First of all, the basics: place your eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Cover the pan and bring to a simmer for about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand for about 15 minutes. Drain and then cover in ice water. Let stand until cool.
To make homemade dye combine 4 drops of food coloring with 1 cup of boiling water. Stir in 1 teaspoon of white vinegar. Your eggs are ready to dye! If you don’t have food coloring, fruit juice will substitute: grape for purple or blue, cranberry for pink, tomato for red, etc.
If you want to get fancy effortlessly cut a 6″ long strip of lace. Tightly wrap around your egg and secure with a rubber band (the extra lace is for you to hold on to). Holding by the lace, dip into the dye. Let drip a few seconds and then unwrap and dry. You will have a pretty pattern from the holes in the lace.
