Tip of the Day: Keep Fruit-Borne Illnesses at Bay
Did you know that fruit that grows close to the ground, like berries and melons, can carry listeria and hepatitis? This is because the closer to the soil the plant is the more it is likely to absorb contamination from fertilizer and water. To ward this off, wash your fruit in a mix of 3 parts water and 1 part white vinegar. This will remove more than 98% of the bacteria. An extra bonus for your extra effort, your fruit will stay fresher longer because you removed the molecules that speed up spoilage!
