If you happen on a sale on milk, cheese, or any other dairy item don’t pass it up because you won’t consume it before it’s expiration. Freeze it! Frozen milk can last up to 3 months longer! Just remember, frozen milk expands so leave room in the container so it won’t burst. To thaw, leave in the refrigerator over night. Hard cheeses like Swiss, Cheddar, and Monterey Jack can freeze up to 9 months in an airtight container; semi-hard cheese can last up to 8 weeks. Dairy products like sour cream, cottage cheese, and yogurt can be stored upside-down in their original container to prevent mold and ice crystals from forming.
