If you are running low on pantry staples because stores are out of stock or you are not able to go out, here are some ways to swap with other ingredients that you may have on hand:

If the price of eggs has you hesitant from buying use the goo (called aquafaba) from a can of chick peas. This is an already common substitute in vegan recipes. 3 tablespoons = 1 egg, 2 tablespoons = 1 egg white. So, save the aquafaba the next time you open a can!

For onions you can try shallots, leeks, scallions, chives, red onion, or cipollini onions as substitutes. PLUS, there is always onion powder: 1 teaspoon = 1 medium-sized onion.

If you run out of baking powder substitute 1 teaspoon of baking soda + 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar. For a large batch you can add a bit of corn starch.

Mayonnaise is an easy trade. Add the same amount of plain or Greek yogurt and blend with sour cream or cottage cheese.

Butter can be swapped for coconut oil, canola oil, or vegetable shortening. Stay away from olive oil because it may have too much flavor and may smoke.
