Tip of the Day: Baking Soda Winter-Proofs Sidewalks

If a snow or ice storm is predicted and you’re out of rock salt or are afraid it will damage your concrete walkways, sprinkle baking soda around instead. If you can do this before the storm hits, the sodium bicarbonate in it will lower the freezing point of water so it will prevent ice from forming.
