Tip of the Day: Allergies? Peel Your Apples!
If you have Springtime allergies and you eat apples, peel them first! Unfortunately, the apple skins, this goes for other fruit as well, are similar to proteins in pollens. However, apples are packed with quercetin, which is a compound that quiets histamine production, so a peeled apple can ease your allergies! If you really can’t give up the skin, pop your fruit into the microwave for 10-15 seconds. This heat changes the protein responsible for allergy symptoms enough so it won’t be bothersome.
