Tip of the Day: Snow Shoveling 101

The first thing you should do before you begin shoveling snow is to stretch and hydrate. Choose a shovel that has a handle long enough to reduce bending your back. To prevent overexertion opt for a shovel head that’s not too large. Then, try to shovel every time a few inches of snow accumulates. To reduce strain, push the snow away from you rather than lifting it. If lifting is a must, keep the shovel blade close to you, bend your knees, and avoid any twisting or tossing motions. Alternate hands every 5-10 minutes and take frequent breaks. Be safe.
