Tip of the Day: Germs Can Be Growing in Your Coffeemaker’s Reservoir

We all wash the decanter from our coffeemaker, but what about that dark, damp reservoir that is a perfect environment to harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew? UGH! Always follow the coffeemaker’s instructions, or if you lost them, add up to 4 cups of undiluted white vinegar to the reservoir. Let this sit for about a half an hour, then turn on the coffeemaker so the vinegar can run through. Now follow with about 3 cycles (pots of coffee, you don’t need to turn the warmer on for this action) of fresh water, brewed and tossed, until the vinegar odor is gone. This should be done after no more than 80 cycles (meaning 80 pots of coffee). How long has yours been? I’m guilty too!
