If you are concerned about chemicals in your dishwasher detergent or are unhappy with the cost of these product, you can make your own! Mix 2 cups of baking soda, 2 cups of borax, 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup of vinegar, plus 15 drops of lemon essential oil. Then, pack this into an ice cube tray. Let harden over night (no need to freeze!).  In the morning, separate the cubes and put these in a closed jar (PLEASE keep away from kids and pets!!). Add one cube to the detergent compartment of your dishwasher as you would with store-bought detergent. The baking soda removes the grime, the salt scrubs the food off, the lemon deodorizes, and the borax and vinegar disinfects.
