Tip of the Day: Recipe Ingredient Substitutions

We’ve all been there. We are about to try a recipe and are out of one of the ingredients. Here a few substitutions if you run out of:

lemon juice: use 1/2 teaspoon of white wine vinegar for every teaspoon you need

cake flour: use 1 cup less 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour per cup you need

buttermilk: use 1 cup milk with 1 tablespoon added or use 1 cup plain yogurt per cup you need

brown sugar: 3/4 cup granulated sugar plus 1/4 molasses per cup you need

heavy cream: 2/3 cup milk plus 1/3 melted butter per cup you need

ricotta cheese: 1 cup cottage cheese per cup you need
